Jake Shimabukuro
Track: 08 Ukulele Five-0
It’s rare for a young musician to earn comparisons to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. It’s even harder to find an artist who has entirely redefined an instrument by his early thirties. But ukulele master Jake Shimabukuro (she-ma-boo-koo-row) has already accomplished these feats, and more, in a little over a decade of playing and recording music. As the San Francisco Gate recently posited about the Hawaiian musician: “The sounds the boyish 33-year old wrings from his ukulele…are unlike anything else in the history of the instrument.”

His 2006 performance of the George Harrison classic, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” broadcast on local TV from New York’s Central Park, brought him major recognition, garnering more than 8 million YouTube views to date. He has since performed with a wide range of artists - including Jimmy Buffett, Bette Midler, Cyndi Lauper, Yo-Yo Ma, Bela Fleck and Ziggy Marley - and has appeared on “The Late Show with Conan O’Brien,” “The Today Show,” and “Last Call with Carson Daly.”

His most recent album, Peace Heart Ukulele, was released in January 2011. He wrote “Ukulele Five-0” exclusively for this soundtrack and it will be featured on an upcoming episode of Hawaii Five-0.
